内皮素（Endothelin, ET）是由血管内皮细胞产生的异肽，具有强大的血管收缩活性。这种肽由三个独立的基因编码，经过加工产生39个残基的 ‘大ET ‘分子，再进一步加工成21个氨基酸序列，命名为ET-1、ET-2和ET-3。ET的作用是通过与两个受体（ETA和ETB）的结合来介导的。ETA的激活会增加血管收缩和钠潴留，从而增加血压。ETB受体的激活引发血管舒张因子的释放，如内皮细胞的一氧化氮（NO）和前列腺素，并增加尿液的产生和排出，从而降低血压。
